Are 3D movies worth it? Well Nolan says No and Batman 3 will NOT be in 3D

With all this craze of 3D movies left and right, rumors began flying a couple of months ago about Christopher Nolan wanting the 3rd Batman movie of his being in 3D. Nolan made comments of a 3D film in the making and internet articles speculated Batman 3 could be made in 3D. Nolan says he has no plans of making it so, according to the LA Times.

Nolan:

“I’m not a huge fan of 3-D. The truth of it is when you watch a film in here, you’re looking at 16 foot-lamberts, When you watch through any of the conventional 3-D processes you’re giving up three foot-lamberts. A massive difference. You’re not that aware of it because once you’re ‘in that world,’ your eye compensates, but having struggled for years to get theaters get up to the proper brightness, we’re not sticking polarized filters in everything. It’s all based on all the visual-effects technology, you know, that we’re currently most engaged in with match moving, so forth, and rendering 2-D imagery into a 3-D space. … On a technical level, it’s fascinating, but on an experiential level, I find the dimness of the image extremely alienating.”

To Nolan’s point, he doesn’t see 3D as the future for movies. He doesn’t like 3D and sees it as a dimming way to view movies. I tend to agree as 3D movies are too expensive, the glasses are ridiculous and can give you bad headaches after viewing. Also I find viewing movies in 3D very distracting, unless you are a part of the movie where you control the characters on the screen, it’s not worth it. Nolan’s statements proves movies adapted to 3D not worth the ticket price. Movies such as ‘Clash of the Titans’ or ‘Shrek Forever After’ weren’t made in 3D but ‘converted’ to 3D at the last second to make money off of it. It worked making money off of the people suckered in to paying the high prices for 3D but when you view the show, you don’t get the 3D feeling like you do in spectacular viewing of Avatar.

Nolan hasn’t forget the audience though as many do like the 3D movies and also leaves this comment,

“Well, let me put it this way: There is no question if audiences want to watch films in stereoscopic imaging, that’s what the studios will be doing, and that’s what I’ll be doing.”

To the point, Nolan will not make Batman 3 in 3D and he’ll continue to make movies to his point of view either in 2D or 3D. Also if you guys are planning to see a movie and that movie just happens to be in 3D, make sure you do research to see if the film was shot for a 3D release. If not, don’t see the movie in 3D, save your cash and see it in spectacular 2D because it will be as the same as 3D but without the goofy glasses.
