A translation of a Nintendo investor conference has now hit the web from earlier this year, the briefing revealing that Nintendo are considering both Wii and DS price-cuts; albeit global ones.

"I have never said that cutting the suggested retail price is not in the cards. However, price cuts in one country can certainly affect other countries. For example, when you say that we should cut the price in Japan due to the current domestic market situation, once the suggested retail price is cut in Japan, people outside Japan will anticipate the same around the world," offers big chief Satoru Iwata.

"While the price cut is said to surely increase demand, it must be clear from a variety of analysis so far that the effect cannot last very long. Accordingly, if we really do enact a price cut, it must be exactly when it can maximize the business."

Despite this conjecture, Iwata-san adds that no specific plans are in oven at the moment. On the topic of slowing Wii sales, he adds that this is because Nintendo are holding off on big releases until later in 2009. More as we get it.

What I got from that was, there will be a price cut. But they don't know when.

Great, just great. I got a better way for them to increase those Wii sales. How about finally lowering the MSRP on some of their 1st party title games.

Some of these games have been out for close to 2 years and they're still selling at the original 50$. Players Choice Nintendo?

I don't think they'll ever lower the prices on their most popular games since they are still making quite a bit of money off of them. The price cut on the console and hand held though will probably turn out well for them, then just raise the price back up after awhile.

my guess would be that they'll price cut by the end of the year. (in time for the holidays)

demand goes up, supply can't meet demand, and we're back to 2006, 07 and 08.

which is why they'd pull a price cut. even if it was $25 less on the wii and DSi, it'd make a huge dent.


then again, i'm surprised DS sales haven't become dead last in Japan. what is it now, every person owns 3 DSs?

Some of the 1st party games have been out for over a year now, as well. Nintendo needs to get their heads out of their assess and finally lower the MSRP of 1st party games.

360 used to be $400.

As long as people are buying the hardware for the current MSRP, I don't see a reason for Nintendo to cut the price on the Wii. As far as Player's Choice goes, it comes later and later as each console is introduced. Remember when the criteria for the program was for a game to be a million seller? Those days are long gone. I'm sure that the Wii will see a Player's Choice line in the near future. I'm more concerned by the lack of DS Player's Choice to be honest . . .

Just to set it straight Frank, the Wii Holder is actually pretty useful as it holds in good space. Problem is that i use the Wii-Jackets and that's why its "crowded" to say.

600/60 bucks (or more depending) for a deck of cards? I can find some cheaper at a local fleamarket.

i agree. some of the stuff is not worth your money or point spenditure. but yes, the mario hat ds game holder seems to be a good buy.

SNK bit is already known and iv posted about the AC thing, and the castlevania dude said that hes gunna think about how to use the Wii for castlevania on the way to the Japan conference for ninty and he hopes to have some ideas after the conference, so its not all cut and dry.

I haven't had any happy moments with my Wii since Dead Space: Extraction came out in September.

No More Heroes 2 and Tatsunoko VS Capcom are going to be out on Tuesday, and I am so happy. I would rather have Tatsunoko VS Capcom on 360, though. I don't want to buy any more $150 joysticks.

I picked it up on Tuesday morning and I have to say that it is AMAZING.

Its a lot more like Killer 7 than the first NMH was, and I think some people might not like it, but I love it.

Its probably the best looking Wii game.
