If you own an Xbox 360 and have Xbox Live, you've probably browsed the Xbox Live Marketplace quite a few times for game add-ons, themes, gamer pictures, videos and lots more. Xbox Originals is a feature in the Marketplace that allows you to buy original Xbox titles to play on your Xbox 360 console.

Microsoft announced that they will be yanking that feature from the Marketplace pretty soon. After one additional unannounced Xbox game becomes an Original, the service will not be updated further. Reasons for this decision are most likely linked to the fact that Microsoft will now feature Games On Demand, the new service that will allow users to purchase full Xbox 360 retail games directly from their Xbox 360, games that will act exactly like their retail counterparts, including achievements, simply without the box. Also, thirty titles like Bioshock and Mass Effect will be available when it launches.

Maybe if Xbox Originals had a wider range of games to download, was cheaper and contained a few amount of achievements like the Xbox Arcade games it would have done better. It looks like we'll still be flocking to Game Stop to get our grubby gamer paws on used games from the first Xbox.

So far there appears to only be back-cataloged items, but the future shows new releases being released through Games On Demand. Expect this feature to hit your Xbox 360 sometime this year.

I wanted to download Stubbs the Zombie because I can't find it anywhere out here. The $20 (or was it $15?) price was steep, though.
