The Ang Lee Hulk was...ok. Not typical fare, but ok.

Honestly, I think the live action Super Mario Bros. movie should never have been made. It veered so far off from the original source material that it completely lost what it was supposed to emulate in the first place.

Its because its a diff. director/writer.

i will say this right now.

SMB MOVIE IS A GOOD MOVIE. there is not one bad thing about it. the only reason you think it's cheesy is because it's from the 90s--that's it.

and mouse, what source material? plumber saves princess from koopa overlord. i thought the movie gave an incredible backstory to a game that had none. it showed you who the Mario Brothers themselves were, and actually focused on their plumbing for once! a twist! it showed Koopa as an overbearing evil guy, while the games seemed to fail in that department. you just met him at the end. almost no word or sight of him up till that point!

and including a realistic yoshi, that sold the entire package for me. that and including TONS of items from the games. kuribo's boot? check. koopahari desert? check. goombas? check. i know they're tall with tiny heads and not what you see in the game BLAHBLAHBLAH, but think about it-- if they WERE accurately presented on-screen, parents wuld've compained by the amount of gore produced from the goombas being squashed.

You know... You can hate me for saying this, but I don't think the Golden Compass should never have existed as a movie.

Sure, Nicole Kidman did an AWESOME job as Mrs. Coulter, but there is just no excuse for the rest of the movie. They could have stuck to the plot a bit better and actually ya know, PUT THE MOVIE IN THE RIGHT ORDER and still not have used any more time or money than they already had. Seriously, the whole thing was just sad.

Ordinarily, I'm really forgiving towards movies based on books. I understand time and budget constraints, but DAMN!

If you've seen the movie, and not read the book, GO READ THE BOOK!

10-09-2008, 10:15 AM
To be honest, as probably the veteran anime fan around here, I was pleasantly surprised with Speed Racer.

I mean really...the animation was really crappy back in the day and if any of you have seen it, it was just silly and way over the top.

...just like this movie.

The Speed Racer movie didn't try and take itself too seriously. It was just meant to be entertaining. In fact, I really liked the fact they still kept the silliness of the tricked out cars as well as the costume selection.

The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the first 1/3...when the second race started, the movie went well. The whole factory tour scene should have been cut...no one should ever try and incorporate Segways into a big budget movie.

Anyways, that's my rant.

Well when I saw it, I was dating a film student.
Needless to say, the 2 of us picked it apart and noticed every little thing that made that movie horrible.
I loved how it tried to revolutionize the handy-cam and all it really did was help give it an even worse name. The handy-cam has so much potential, just nobody knows how to use it correctly.

Warning: Spoiler!!!

That, and just for example, can someone explain to me how when they finally get to the girl, she is all fucked up and can hardly move. They pick her up off the pole thats going through her leg, and then 10 seconds later, she is sprinting down the streets like nothing ever happend. How exactly does that work?

... ohh, so in that case its reasonable? One second she has a steel rod through her thigh and she cant move, and the next she is wolverine and heals immediately. She isnt a superhero, she doesnt have superpowers.
Even in Hollywood, if you do something like this... it doesnt make sense.

Also... out of all the people in the movie who got bit or hurt or whatever by the creatures, how come that one chick blew up from it? Nobody else was blowing up. They all just died. Where is the consistancy in that?

How about they try and make a worse movie.

I could be wrong, it's been awhile since I saw the movie, but wasn't the rod going through Beth's shoulder? or atleast somewhere above her lower body... i dont remember it in her leg. And if so, I know I'D have enough friggin adrenaline from knowing that a huge ass creature is rampaging through the city to propel me to run to a helicopter..

As for the lil parasite guys, we really only see them bite Beth, non of the other main people were bitten. And before she does the big kabang we see the Military docs. rolling a corpse by with his chest all exploded outwords, doesn't he count?

It might have been through the arm or upper body somewhere... Its been a while since I've seen it. I just remember being like wtf? But even so... The blood loss alone would be enough to make her weak enough to not do what she does through the rest of the movie.

And I really enjoyed Cloverfield, and I think
the handcam was put to good use.
Tell us, how should it be used?

And as for Beth's injury, it was in her left shoulder,
and they do tie it up to slow down the bleeding.
In the scenes after that she is even pressing on the wound with
her left hand.

And it doesnt always have to be realistic.
Te reason you watch a movie is to be entertained.
If you want it to be realistic, then start bitching
about the HUGE FUCKING MONSTER.
THATS SOOO NOT REALISTIC!!

Hiya.

Hadn't seen it when it came out, i saw it about a year after seeing Ep. III. You know what? I dont see why people hate it so much. It lays down the story for the original trilogy down to the last detail, like the plans for the eventual Death Star.

More canonical than Ep. I, that's for damn sure.

The Notebook

Bullshit, The Notebook is a fantastic book and a great movie. Only people who hated this movie are the ones that are followers to the haters of this flick from its hype. If you actually seen this movie, or read the book, you'll see the amazing piece of writing it provides.

Anyways: Matrix Revolutions, both Hulk movies, Transformers 2, DB:E, Street Fighter: Chun-Li (but the chick in the movie was hott), The Goods:Livehardsellhard, Final Destination 2, 3 & 3D, any movie that Zac Efron is in and Star Trek Nemesis.

I could go on.

I think its because of the cheesy ass acting in 1, 2 and 3. You can really notice it too. But hell, 5 & 6 had it. But it was far worse in number 3. I enjoyed all the movies, the 2nd has to be my favorite in the 123 trilogy because of how it lays it out perfectly of how the clones became and the love story between Anakin and Padme is really nice imo. Episode 4 (originally Star Wars) is the all time best one though imo.

the sequels of Ocean's 11.

Ocean's 12 I can understand. But Ocean's 13 is fantastic. Problem is that you have to watch 12 to understand 13.

And if you're talking about the original original Ocean's 11, I can understand but they did a great remake of the original.

Also, Quarantine was much better than [REC], and Funny Games was a better remake of Funny Games, so foreign horror movies CAN be remade well.

There is nothing wrong with Disney Sequels. Obviously you have never seen Toy Story 2, Pirates 2 & 3 and Fantastia 2000 to name a few, all excellent movies. Cinderella 2 can be a drag but is a good movie. Mulan 2 was hilarious imo.

Anyways, Ocean's 12 and 13 are very fitting, fantastic sequels to Ocean's 11. Yes, Ocean's 12 can be a drab of a crap story as most it was centered around the Julie Robert's plot, all in all it was a great movie. Thankfully, Ocean's 13 picked the trilogy all back together to a well made fantastic movie, Matt Damon nailed it perfectly imo.

It doesn't matter to me that the majority disagree. I'm sorry i was spoiled with variety with different story instead of sequels and remakes. I was fine with the ending of every original Disney movie, and their endings. If they wanted to add on to the story, they should of used specials, cartoon series, or even books. This coming from a big Disney fan. Right now, Disney is in the same boat as SquareEnix. Milking every dime they can recieve from fans. That is why I believe Disney sequels should never exsist, even If i loved them.

I agree with you there, EZE. I mean, I've liked some disney sequels, but they just got ridiculus about it. I'm actually looking forward to them coming out with something almost original again for the first time in god knows how long.

Cloverfield had an awesome concept, definately has some great moments, and I don't care that they don't explain everything. I just think they could have done better. Much better. I will never watch it again.

I have to disagree with you about Toy Story 2, Eric. It was a Disney movie in name only. It was produced by Pixar, who have only (up until this point) released quality movies, Toy Story 2 included. Just because it was a sequel doesn't mean it automatically shouldn't exist.

All the other Disney sequels, yeah they're awful. It's one thing to make a good sequel with a solid story that makes sense in the universe of the first movie, but to make shitty sequels just to make something to sell to overworked parents who need to sit their kids in front of the TV while they make dinner? That's pretty low.

I put Pixar in the same boat as Disney. Toy Story 2 was a great adaptation to the original but I still say the movie shouldn't exist. I rather see Toy Story 2 and 3 segments of a Toy Story tv series. That series could of been a hit. When Toy Story receives sequels, Pixar is going to make sequels to the other films. I don't want to see that happen but it will.
