View Full Version : Guess who has seen Avatar?

I have, and I have to say that it lives up to most of what James Cameron has said about it. While the CG isn't perfect in every scene, it is still the best that I have seen in any film. The story is kinda cheap and predictable, but this is James Cameron that we're talking about, and he knows how to make it work. Personally, I think this is the best film of '09 (with District 9 coming in second place and Watchmen in third.)

Go see it, its worth the 3D price. Too bad this movie will not make as much money as Twilight/Transformers did this year.

Which is sad because I heard Transformers was horrible.....

And let's face it, there's no way twilight's that great either (sorry Twilight fans)

This movie blew my fucking mind out of amazement like District 9 did. This movie is excellence on every level.

I don't know, but I know Transformers and Twilight banked on opening weekend. The midnight showing that I went to didn't even have enough people to fill half of the theater while twilight filled eight. Ticket sales for this will finally start to pick up next weekend wen people start hearing about it.

FINALLY saw avatar.

It was better than I expected. Extremely cliche and predictable, but visually awesome. Imo, the movie was well executed.

Would have enjoyed it much more if not for the fucking old women right next to me who talked through the entire fuckin' movie.

I loved the movie, though 3D is very over rated. IMAX was sold out so my GF's mom wanted to go to the regular theater and they had it in 3D with those glasses. I watched part of the movie without the glasses because it hurt my eyes, and it was all blurry because it was meant for the glasses of course. I don't think I will watch another 3D movie. It would have been just as good without 3D. But anyway the movie was awesome and I loved it.

Normally, shooting them a 'shut the fuck up' look works. I'm told I have a natural air of dominence about me. *shrugs* People just tend to listen to me without even thinking. Unless its my bf. XD

There was no one else to hear them though. just me. There was no one else nearby save for my bf and our friends who were to my other side. I didn't want to ruin everyone else's movie by making a big scene of it.

FINALLY SOMEONE AGREES. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I don't see any point to current 3D - its just a gimmick. The 3D adds NOTHING to Avatar, James Cameron's world is one that works just as well in 2D. Why lose color and picture quality (And wear those uncomfortable glasses) to pretend that you can reach out and touch what you see? I have seen quite a few movies in 3D, and while the gimmickey ones are cool (My Bloody Valentine 3D) serious cinema does not need "Real D"

Exactly. Pretty disappointing experience IMO

3D is utterly useless to me. Seriously. I'm blind in one eye so the glasses make the 3D movies not look funky, but they do not make the movies look 3D to me.

Dillon
01-04-2010, 02:31 AM
Even if you had better vision in the other eye, the 3D does not really make it look 3D

Yeah, I could see how 3D would be more distracting than anything for that movie.

Because of the price ticket for 3D? I know that is the number one thing I cringe when I hear/see that a movie I'm interested in is in 3D.

Homiko
01-05-2010, 05:22 AM
I just mean that I think 3D would distract from the story/acting. There's so much to look at in avatar. So many subtle things, and not so subtle things.

Apparently, they want Na'vi to be the next klingon. The entire dictionary is not only online, but there are books available written by the language's creator.

I think its interesting.

Dillon
01-17-2010, 05:58 AM
I think they're taking it too far. I enjoyed Avatar, but there is no way that it can live up to the Trek universe.

Homiko
01-17-2010, 07:14 PM
Who knows? They do have enough content for 2 more sequels. At least, that's the rumor. And I happened to think the na'vi language was pretty cool.

But most of my star trek experience comes from my dad watching next gen when I was a kid and just wanted to watch cartoons or wanted the TV for games.... and bf watching DS9. Imo, DS9 is horrible. Yes, it has its moments, but overall isn't a good show.

I mock the acting viciously.

Dillon
01-17-2010, 07:40 PM
I only like the original series and a few episodes of TNG.

Homiko
01-17-2010, 07:43 PM
I've only seen a couple of episodes of the original and frankly, I'm not a fan of 70s shows. Storylines always annoy me. I blame scooby doo.

If you think about it, Pocahontis is extremely similar to avatar. I <3 nature and all, but have never really been a fan of pocahontis.

I really have no idea what my fave disney movie is. Lion King maybe... or 101 Dalmations.
