Too bad I don't buy DVDs anymore, my family has stolen 80% of my collection.

I don't even want to think about how many DVDs I own. >_>

DVDs?

Oh! Those were those things that were a foot in diameter and made of vinyl, right?

People can say whatever they want but I will NEVER be caught dead buying a a $25-30 blu-ray. A lot of the time there is no huge improvement. I have watched several blu-ray movies and am left unimpressed. The only thing I need in hi-def is my video games.

wow then u must not be a big fan of movies then plus i havent paid over 20 for a Blu Ray yet and i have a lot. The most expensive one i have was $50. The Watchmen Ultimate-Cut. but that was a gift

Homiko

nwo see I don't care about hi-def in games. Yes its nice, but not necessary. Though I'm much more on quality gameplay than I am on graphics.

Right now, I wouldn't mind a blu-ray player, but do not see the point in spending the cash on one just yet.

I am one of the biggest movie fans. Blu-ray is a gimmick there is only a slight increase in graphical quality and for a movie who the fuck cares? I can watch a blu-ray and a DVD side by side and have absolutely no preference.

Homiko
01-16-2010, 06:00 PM
Yeah really. Me, I'm more of a stickler on sound quality. Our house has theater quality sound and Blu-ray vs dvd makes no difference to me.

Morte
01-16-2010, 07:44 PM
I like my standard def tv and laptop screen, and as long as it's TV-quality, I'm good. I won't stoop to Cam level, but otherwise, I jsut want to be able to see it.

Dillon
01-17-2010, 05:57 AM
Yeah, I actually prefer my movies in hi-def. Just the contrast levels and the vibrant colors make it worth it, then add in clarity and detail. $30 is way too steep, though. The most I'll pay for a normal movie release is $15.

EZE
01-17-2010, 05:59 AM
I'm blind so hi-def is useless to me.

Dillon
01-17-2010, 05:43 PM
I am too, but I finally got contact lenses and it makes a huge difference. Anything in SD on my tv looks really pixelated.

Homiko
01-17-2010, 07:11 PM
I can see the difference in HD, but my thing is, the HD TVs I see in stores.... look like shit. Most of them anyway. Half of them just look like the color brightness/contrast was jacked up.

Morte
01-17-2010, 07:13 PM
Which is funny, because they go out of their way to make the HD look good while making the SD look terrible because they can get a bigger markup on HD.

Homiko
01-17-2010, 07:21 PM
I guess. I've yet to see an HD TV I've actually been impressed with.

But what do I know? I'm half blind. :p

Morte

Coming from someone who has such good eyesight that they cannot physically improve my eyesight, there is no discernible difference unless you have them side by side

I have seen many movies on my 1080p HDTV and unless you have two beside each other one playing DVD and the other playing Blu-Ray, there is no discernible difference. And the slight difference that does exist is not worth it. Especially for the price. I don't give two shits about that insignificant difference. Games, like I said before, are a very different story.

Morte
01-18-2010, 01:33 AM
I'm sorry, did you really say you see a huge difference in pixels? Really? That's the stance you're going to take? Okay, forget I said anything, you clearly know more than me on all subjects.

Oh, and Blu ray DISKS may be cheaper, but Blu ray PLAYERS are roughly 500% more expensive.

You get DVD players packaged in for free on computers and game consoles alike, and can get a standalone for $20-$50. A halfway decent blu ray player runs for $500, and it won't make any difference at all without a high def tv on top of it.

You think you're special because your brain affects the way you perceive visual information based on a predetermined opinion, and you aren't. You're as special as the people who spend $100 on a monster cable because you can "see duh dif'rance!" when in reality a goddamn coat hanger is just as effect.

obviously you guys are blinder than me because i see a huge difference in pixels and everything in HD maybe u just have really shitty tvs like Dillon

You and Austin are stupid when it comes to this.

My TV cost more than yours and his COMBINED. I have the best Philips Plasma TV that was available three years ago. Yes, it could be better now, but my TV still looks better than yours. The contrast on both yours and Austins is shit compared to mine. You just think my tv looks bad because it has a really sharp image.

EZE

Dillon
01-18-2010, 05:03 AM
I would like to take a reasonable approach to this argument by stating my own opinion and accepting those of others. I prefer HD video on my own TV. I really don't care if its a placebo, but the one thing that I really notice is reduced screen noise in high def video. This may sound stupid, but I think that the color and contrast quality really make a difference. Another reason why I prefer HD is gaming. Most HD games use text that is too small to be read on a standard def TV.

EZE

On games it has an astounding difference, and on specially designed HD material it makes a slight difference, though one nearly indistinguishable without direct comparison. Standard television is going to look the same no matter what you do though.
