Shit, back in the day when dubbing wasn't as readily available, us anime nuts had to watch a lot of anime raw...no sub, no dub and we had to figure out the story on our own.

However, today...it depends on the mood I'm in. If I really want to sit down and watch, I'll prefer sub, but if I'm just surfing the net or something, dub is cool.

Still, I've seen some really crappy subs and some really crappy dubs in my day...I mean subs so bad it's practically FoB'y and dubs that were really bad overlays of the original Japanese.

Same here. I watched Beck, Mongolian Chop Squad subbed... and when they came out of the dubbed version... ... ... I refuse to watch the dubbed. They made everyone sound like Keanu Reeves/surfer boys from the 80's and they changed the music. The music is what made the anime! I prefer subs just because it has more emotion. This doesn't mean I despise dubs either, more like how I first watch the show and if I'm too lazy to read while watching the show....though you gain some kind of talent by being able to read the top (if any) and bottom subtitles at the same time when shown together for like 5 seconds lol.

Examples for me are DB/DBZ and Fullmetal Alchemist. I would never ever watch these subbed. I like the english voices better and the men to not sound so damn girly. And yes I know they voice them with women in Japanese, but that's besides the point here.

When I first started watching anime I watched dubs more, but I slowly got more into subs. Really it just depends what anime it is. When I want some nostalgia I'd prefer watching DBZ or Digimon in english because that's the way it was like as a kid. But when I watch an anime a friend suggests to me it's usually a sub.

A real pro to dubs is that, if you've watched the episode before, you can just listen to it and still get what's happening. I usually do that and check forums.
